Amazing Australian Zen Tiny Home Combines Japanese and Scandinavian Influences to Create Modern Style
By Byron Bay, Australia is this overwidth tiny house, designed by Nadia & Kester Marshall and built by Sam Commerford. Dubbed the Zen Tiny Home, it combines Japanese and Scandinavian influences to create a modern style with relaxing atmosphere.
The tiny house measures 3-meters wide by 7.5-meters long (9.8-feet by 24.6-feet) and has a window box over the trailer tongue to create a cozy reading nook. The exterior timber cladding from Weathertex is made from 98% recycled Australian hardwood mixed with paraffin wax. The extended window and window box are trimmed in burnt cedar siding. A large sliding glass door opens onto the modular deck and an outdoor shower makes it easy for them to wash off after visiting the beach.
For the cabinetry they used light-weight plywood coated in Rubio monocoat oil, the ceiling is whitewashed v-join pine, and the floors are faux wood vinyl planks.
The spacious galley kitchen has a gas lift window behind the sink, four burner gas cooktop, oven, apartment size refrigerator, full height pantry, and plenty of cabinets. The butcher block counter has an overhang that serves as their dining area.
The living room has an L-shaped couch with storage underneath, the reading nook, and a coffee table. A large set of storage stairs lead up to the bedroom loft, which has a storage compartment along the edge, providing privacy and a good spot for some plants.
